Madison County Highlights

3 small towns, 50,000 natural acres, the Appalachian Trail and  Hot Springs

Mars Hill

Mars Hill is the prideful home of Mars Hill College, a four-year liberal arts institution founded in 1856.  Its original roots are bound by a dramatic history and the story of Joseph Anderson, a slave held as collateral for its financial beginnings.

Hot Springs and the Appalachian Trail

Hot Springs is a very special spot indeed. Where else can you find the Appalachian Trail rolling down Main Street. Hot Springs is named for the natural Springs that flow underground making it possible for you to enjoy a wonderful soak overlooking the mighty French Broad River.

Marshall

I always fondly describe Marshall as the town trapped in time, the way life is meant to be. Although, you will see fond touches added by the newcomers to the county. You can buy a dang good cup of designer coffee at Zuma’s. And don’t miss Thursday nights at Zuma’s when just like clock work, Grammy award winner Bobby Hicks shows up to jam with the local pickers.

Max Patch

Max Patch is our very favorite spot in all of Western North Carolina. I dare you to go up there and not give it a spin and belt a good chorus of  “The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music”.

Hot Springs Spa

While in Hot Springs just imagine a Swedish massage for two, followed by a soak in one of the roomy tubs overlooking the French Broad river. Don’t stop there, meander down Main Street to one of the several eating establishments before that beautiful drive back to Ponder Cove.

50,000 Breath taking Acres

There are over 50,000 acres of national forest and wild rivers in the county.  The Pisgah National Forest features some of the most beautiful and rugged mountain scenery, and the best recreational opportunities in eastern North America. A good ole country drive is guaranteed to cure those city blues.
