Madison County has some hot stuff going on but nothing hotter than being the home of “Chicken on a Chain”. If you don’t believe me read ESPN’s article. It seems bull riding has become a rather large sport and we lay claim to its star.

The best story of all is the tale of how Madison County’s infamous celebrity got his name. As Jamey Bergman explains in his article….The bull, The Myth, The Legend from ESPN.com…There’s more to Chicken than his bucking — “that bull has a special quality which is hard to pin down. He’s just so big — he’s just a freak, He’s got the name and he’s got the look”.

“Every hero has their genesis myth, and for Chicken, that X-factor might lie somewhere in his name. Whereas in Greek mythology Athena sprang fully formed from Zeus’ forehead, in cowboy lore, Chicken on a Chain got his start by springing free of his pen.”

But much to his chagrin when he got out and he got tangled up with some fighting roosters and one of those roosters with a chain got caught on his leg. It took them three or four days before they caught him.

And on that day, the legend was born: Chicken on a Chain.

There is no better place for a splendid dog-friendly vacation than greater Asheville, North Carolina. There is so much to do and so much to see for you and your pooch. And Asheville, paws down is the most pet friendly city in the south. In the city or outside let the fun begin. If dining around is your thing you have a plethora of choices.

Thanks to the new North Carolina dog-friendly dining rule there is no challenge finding a great place to eat. If it is OK with the owner it is OK with the state. Of course we are speaking of dining al fresco and pooches are asked to be on their best behavior.

Many bars do offer inside seating since they don’t have full kitchens to trouble the health department. Asheville recently ended in a dead heat for the best beer town along with Portland, Oregon. So, expect great bars for you to grab a brewsky and yep, Bowser is welcome.

You will also be very impressed with the attitude of the shop owners. They are very welcoming to your pets offering little snacks upon entrance.

Asheville is home to America’s largest home, the Biltmore Estate where dogs are welcome on the grounds and in many of the exhibits. Catch some of the most breath-taking views of western North Carolina from this perfect vantage point. Standing next o your pet you can dream of times gone by when the Vanderbilts romped the grounds with their many dogs.

Venture out of town and enjoy Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi, raft the French Broad, drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway or hike on the Appalachian Trail. So, as you can just imagine in town or in the mountains surrounding Asheville a very dog-friendly adventure is awaiting of you.

Don’t hesitate to call at 828-689-7304. I am always willing to help if you with a great dog friendly vacation especially if you choose to come to greater Asheville, North Carolina.

We just said good bye to Bree, Courtney and McKena from the dog travel channel. We were lucky enough to show them around Ponder Cove and soon will be featured on their on-line channel. Of course, McKena had a doggy good time and we did too. They were a swell threesome and the best part…they knew how to  enjoy our mountains. They made their way to Hot Springs for a nice hike and into town for a couple of scrumptious vegetarian meals at Asheville’s finest…they agreed Rosseta’s kitchen was awesome. We had the time to gab over breakfast on everything from homeopathy to organic farming. Toooo much fun meeting like minded people here at the Cove.
