This Devil wore Prada. After following her fashion career all over the world Martha decided her country roots were in dire need of restoration. Gary's soul yearned to concentrate on his furniture making full time. So, they left the bright lights of Hollywood and headed for the hills.
Martha's passions have not changed. She is happiest when she is designing, decorating, cooking, caring for her animals or provoking guests into stimulating conversation. She claims to be the poster child for as she puts it "do what you love and those like minded folk will follow". Part of her new life that she is so proud is being part of Madison County . "I have traveled the world and I find the beauty here overwhelming and its people so inviting. She spends a great deal of time supporting the Madison County Arts Council and serving on the board of HandMade in America , a non-profit organization that serves the craftsmen, small towns and family farms to further their economic goals. Martha is as busy as ever but she still finds time to serve up a dang good breakfast.
Gary is busy working in his new shop and creating fine furniture again. Gary's work can be seen at The Design Gallery in Burnsville and an array of favorite pieces are in residence at Ponder Cove. Trained in Oxfordshire and then under the tutelage of James Krenov, Gary has won numerous awards not to mention the attention of filmmaker Barry Levinson, Charles Shultz, Bruce Aidell and other noted patrons. He is busy discovering the beauty of North Carolina hardwoods and creating new pieces and delights in giving tours of his shop to review works in progress. Check out Gary's website.
