Bed and Breakfast at Ponder Cove, just outside Asheville in Mars Hill, advertises itself as a retreat for "pooches and their people." To say the place is dog-friendly is an understatement -- it is dog-oriented. It is oriented to people who don't want to travel without their pets.

Innkeeper Martha Abraham, who had a long career in fashion, says she traveled with her dogs for 20 years. "If my dogs couldn't go, I wouldn't go."

The concept she and husband Gary Rawlins work from is that people who want the company of their dogs should be able to stay in nice places. "They shouldn't be treated like second-class citizens," Abraham says. [Read Full Article]
